Shasan
Shasan was settled a few years after the The Great Thaw, and quickly became a regional hub and prosperous community of miners and ranchers. Reghed herders overran and destroyed the town in order to protect their way of life, herding caribou.
In order to increase forage for their livestock, the people of Shasan killed the caribou that Rheged herders, who had occupied the region for millenia, relied upon, and this had devastating effects on Rheged livelihood. When negotiations failed, they felt three was nothing left to do but attack, and rid the land of this ravaging presence.
Five miles east of Shasan, is a shrine dedicated to Hoama, goddess of divination, fertility and health. Many years ago, the shrine’s priest-seers foresaw the Rhegeda attack on Shasan, giving the townsfolk time to escape. Not all the townsfolk chose to flee, but those who did went to the shrine and brought much of the town’s gold with them.
The barbarians eventually tracked the townsfolk to the shrine, besieged it, and slaughtered everyone inside. The treasure has never been found.
