Duchy of Varkia

The Duchy of Varkia is one of the strongest states east of the Great Gap. They have a reputation for being blunt. Their political culture is different to the majority of other aristocracies. In Varkia it is not considered inappropriate for constituents to approach nobility directly with issues. Similarly, it is not considered in poor taste for nobles to interact with commoners at common places like taverns.

Culture And Landscape

Their architecture is characterized by great stout keeps that dot the seaboard. They are constructed in such a manner that they endure the frequent storms and intense waves of the nearby Stormwave Bay. In times past, pirate gangs have raided the coastline, leading to Varkia developing exceptional footmen to drive the scum back into the sea. To this end, they have a diplomatic arrangement with neighboring Pelargir for their efforts as a coastguard. It is also known that Varkia has a long standing feud with the Mezoroan Protectorate. The specifics of which are largely unknown.

As a duchy, Varkia is ruled by Duke Arnjolf Hafnjaar.
