The title is conferred yearly during a meeting where people put forward their names for consideration. To earn the title, one must provide evidence of their income, and it must be checked by the treasury. The title comes with a great deal of prestige, as well as a large manse that overlooks the city from choice real-estate. They also become head of the merchant council.
