Astaria Delarae (ah-star-ee-ah dell-uh-ray)

Born in what is now being rebuilt into New Rahgotheim, but was originally known as Umbraheim (the city of shadow). Now, the first thing you might notice about Astaria, if not her impeccable skill at the violin, is likely to be her bright cherry red hair. Which she keeps in an intricately braided ponytail, which is in turn wrapped around her neck like a scarf. A style she's worn it in since around the time she was a teenager. The second thing that may stand out are her eyes; a rich, lush, emerald green color that sparkle like the gems they call to mind. She had, for all intents and purposes, a rather nice upbringing; Her father (a talented musician in his own right) was the tavern's resident bard, and her mother was the city blacksmith. She also has a twin sister named Astella (pronounced mostly how it looks) whom she has not spoken of until recently. Presumably to protect her identity, as she's been in hiding all this time while Astaria has been off with the crew of the airship she adventures with. As children, Astaria and Matthias Mallucé (the boy who would become Nocturne) were actually rather good friends, despite the gap in social class. This is presumably one of the reasons she vouched for him twice. Not only when the party that would recruit them both to the airship was ready to kill him after stopping him, but again when he proposed his plan to rebuild the city in an attempt to attone for Nocturne's sins. Astaria has often been one to see the good in people, and watching her once good friend become the monster Nocturne and plummet her home city to the brink of ruin has miraculously not tarnished a heart of pure, shining gold. Since she was a girl, her dream of being a famous musician has stemmed not from the usual ambitions attributed to celebrities, but simply from the genuine joy she feels seeing the expressions on the faces of those she entertains. She honestly just wants to help people feel better. Perhaps this is how she survived Rahgotheim without letting it change her the way it changed so many others. In fact, she used her talents to create some semblance of peace and safety within Rahgotheim's tavern working her father's old job. Despite this, she would pray nearly every night to Korvala, who was her matron deity even then, to send her someone to raise her from the ashes of her ruined city; Enter the airship crew. After she helped them bring Nocturne to his senses, stopping what may have been his ultimate evil act, Astaria saw the return of the boy she grew up with and his return to the path he always wanted. First she was given hope, then she truly was taken from the ashes of Rahgotheim... and introduced to Castel Gorvaine. From the moment her eyes met his burning ruby ones, she was in love. She new he was Korvala's answer; she wanted a hero, he thinks himself a monster, but she sees an angel. from that moment on, another goal entered her heart, even as she began to realize her dream of being a famous musician. With her faith tested, and wholly rewarded for its endurance, she set out to join the priestesses of Korvala's clergy. Astaria Delarae is a woman who passed through fire, never truly lost her optimism or her faith, and was rewarded with the love of her life and the career of her dreams. Through her music and her church she seeks to continue to be a light for those who are lost in the darkness. She has always had hope... now she's giving it back.
