Alba Mhòr, for gaelic-speakers easily translated to 'Great Scotland', was once beknown as Great Britain, reshaped by environmental destruction and decades of civil war.
Warlords are fighting for territories, but also protection of the land, concomitant for the humankind’s future. Steam technique is sophisticated; economy, military matters and means of travel dominated by airship fleets all over the riven empire.
Despite dearth and war going on, one of the great airship ports, a city named Bay Adh'air, stands out as the self-subsistent capital of Alba Mhòr, under the rule of a young warlord, widely known as Lord Yewenstroke (sometimes spelled Evenstroke), whose fame developed from bringing peace and freedom of worship back to his land. Old and new faiths are scattered across its population. The settlement areas of Alba Mhòr are a cultural map of the religious strife troughout the years, now many of them monuments of his victory march. Odem, heart of the Odem Valleys and long arm of his regency, is the realm’s largest and second most important city. Literally named for yielding “the breath of the earth” it’s the undisputed coal capital and interior administrative centre. Still, the boundary skirmishes are far from being solved, and many an Englishman to the core has a critical eye on the young Scottish dryhten who makes no secret of his affinity to the old gods. Time will tell if he is the true saviour of the land - or just another warlord respinning the idle tale about power, glory and kinghood.
For now, we are following someone else's steps in this story. Ciarán Kane, a 29-year-old pedlary blacksmith grown up in this world of famine, overlords and recession.
