Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Concordia. The dwarves of Concordia have an interesting relationship with one another. The first settlement they founded was named annexedfound themselves on the brink of a civil war and haven been for centuries now. Many who were not interested in the politics at the time relocated to other cities for their safety and now dwarves can be found across most of the continent.   The dwarves whose ancestors settled in Tordelvar during The First Era are known as mountain dwarves, whereas the dwarves that chose to settle elsewhere are known as the hill dwarves. Most mountain dwarves found outside of Tordelvar remain civil to one another, however for some showing allegiance to the wrong hold can have can quickly lead to hostilities. Hill dwarves do not find themselves in this situation and maintain good relationships with both sides of the conflict. Many believe it would take a hill dwarf intervention to settle the troubles in Tordelvar cities, but whether that could happen remains to be seen.   The final group of dwarves, the duergar, are extremely rarely on the continent, mostly living in The Underdark beneath the surface. The duergar are the one species the dwarves of the Tordelvar cities hate more than each other, believing them to be enslaved corrupted by aberrations. While this may have been true of their origins, these days duergar have liberated themselves and live within their own civilisations within The Underdark and beyond.

Civilization and Culture

History

Like many races, the exact origins of the dwarves were lost in myth and legend. While many non-dwarven scholars believed that dwarves were not native to the world, most dwarves believed that their ancestors came from the heart of the planet itself, given life by Moradin, the Allhammer, after being made by him within the Soulforge. These legends held that the dwarves fought their way to the surface world, overcoming the dangers they faced below through strength of arms and skill.
