Hiemal Steel
Properties
Material Characteristics
Hiemal steel is an alloy infused with ice and magic from The Morndin Ridge. It has a silvery-blue coloration which swirls and flows slowly and is incredibly cold to the touch. This is due to an exothermic reaction happening within the metal which makes it radiate off any internal heat. As a result, weapons made from this material almost freeze targets on impact whereas armour provides the bearer with a warming effect.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Weapons. When a creature is hit with a weapon or piece of ammunition made of hiemal steel, it deals an additional 1D4 points of cold damage.
Armour. While wearing armour made of hiemal steel, when the wearer take cold damage, the wearer can use their reaction to gain resistance to the triggering damage. Once this trait has been used, it cannot be used again until the next dawn. Only medium and heavy armour (excluding hide) can be made from hiemal steel.
Vulnerability to Fire. If you hit an object which is on fire or a create made from fire (like a fire elemental) with a weapon made from hiemal steel, the target has resistance to the weapon's damage. In addition, the weapon suffers a permeant -1 penalty to attack and damage rolls due to it beginning to warp. Once the weapons goes beyond a -3 penalty in this way, it breaks. In addition, if you are subject to a attack, spell or effect which deals fire damage whilst wearing armour made from hiemal steel, the armour sufferers a permanent -1 to the AC it grants. Once the armour goes beyond a -3 penalty in this way, it breaks.

Distribution
Trade & Market
Hiemal steel is created from the magic of this forge and as a result can only be produced here. It is commonly used to forge weapons and armour for the people of Thuldor to aid them with the harsh conditions. Products made from it are rarely available to people outside of The Morndin Ridge. Those who wish to purchase any usually have to make the journey to the source, though occasionally items have been made to trade with the goliaths of the westerns mountains.
