Spellcasting. Morothos is a 14th-level spellcaster. His spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 18, +10 to hit with spell attacks). Morothos has the following wizard spells prepared:
- Cantrips (at will): chill touch, dancing lights, mage hand, mending, message.
- 1st level (4 slots): cause fear*, mage armour, ray of sickness*.
- 2nd level (3 slots): blindness/deafness*, misty step, ray of enfeeblement*.
- 3rd level (3 slots): animate dead*, bestow curse*, counterspell, vampiric touch*.
- 4th level (3 slots): blight*, dimension door, sickening radiance.
- 5th level (2 slots): cloudkill, negative energy flood*.
- 6th level (1 slot): circle of death*, create undead*.
- 7th level (1 slot): finger of death*, teleport.
- At Will: ray of frost.
- 1/Day each: armour of agathys (2nd-level), darkness.
Arcane Recovery (1/Day). When Morothos finishes a short rest, he can choose expended spell slots to recover. The spell slots can have a combined level that is equal to or less than 7 and none of the slots can be 6th level or higher. The Book of Vile Darkness. Morothos carries The Book of Vile Darkness, which has the following properties:
- Mark of Darkness. Morothos has advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) made to interact with evil creatures and Charisma (Intimidation) checks made to interact with non-evil creatures.
- Command Evil (1/Day). Morothos can cast Dominate Monster on an evil target (save DC 18).
- Dark Lore. Morothos adds his proficiency bonus to any Intelligence ability check made to to recall information about some aspect of evil.
- Minor Beneficial Property. Morothos is immune to disease.
- Minor Beneficial Property. Morothos is cannot be charmed or frightened.
- Minor Beneficial Property. Morothos gains a +1 to Armour Class (already applied).
- Major Beneficial Property. Morothos cannot be blinded, deafened, petrified or stunned.
- Minor Detrimental Property. Non-magical flames within 30ft. of Morothos are extinguished.
- Minor Detrimental Property. Morothos deals 1D6 necrotic damage to any non-creature plant he touches.
- Minor Detrimental Property. Animals within 30ft. of Morothos are hostile to him.
- Major Detrimental Property. Each time Morothos attunes to this item, he is placed under the Geas spell with the instructions, "Build me the greatest undead army the world has ever seen."
- Major Detrimental Property. Morothos takes 8D10 psychic damage each time he attunes to this item.
- The creature's hit point maximum is increased by 14.
- The creature adds +5 to its weapon damage rolls.
Actions
Quarterstaff. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. Hit: 1D6+2 bludgeoning damage, or 1D8+2 bludgeoning damage if used with two hands. Dark Speech. Ranged Spell Attack: reach 15ft. radius (self), each non-evil creature. Hit: 3D6 psychic damage. Morothos suffers 1D12 psychic damage. Command Undead. Morothos chooses one undead that he can see within 60 feet of him. That creature must make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw. If it succeeds, he can't use this feature on it again. If it fails, it becomes friendly to him and obeys his commands until he uses this feature again. If the target has an Intelligence of 8 or higher, it has advantage on the saving throw. If it fails the saving throw and has an Intelligence of 12 or higher, it can repeat the saving throw at the end of every hour until it succeeds and breaks free.
Reactions
Grim Harvest. When Morothos kills one or more creatures with a spell of 1st level or higher, he regains hit points equal to twice the spell's level, or three times its level if the spell belongs to the School of Necromancy. he doesn't gain this benefit for killing constructs or undead.
