Properties
Material Characteristics
Solarian is a metallic material with a brassy-gold colour. It emits a soft glow whilst in ingots, but the thinner the item made with it, the brighter that light becomes.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Weapons. When a creature is hit with a weapon made from solarian, the weapon deals an additional 1D4 radiant damage. The weapon also expends bright light for a radius of 5ft. and dim light for an additional 5ft.
Armour. When a creature wearing armour made from solarian falls to 0 hit points, the armour emits a flash of bright, radiant energy and each creature within 5ft. suffers must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is blinded until the end of its next turn. Only medium and heavy armour (excluding hide) can be made from solarian.
Sunlight Dependence. Solarian items lose the properties described above after they spend 4 hours out of sunlight. When this happens, the item must be exposed to direct sunlight for at least 1 hour to regain these properties.
History & Usage
History
Solarian was discovered by the dwarven forgemasters of Tordelvar (North) after they began to experiment with different metallic alloys for weapons and armour. The method of creation is a closely guarded secret to this day.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Use of solarian is rare outside of Tordelvar (North), given how new the material is. Typically, it is used for weapons and armour. However, it can also be used a decoration, or even early-evening lighting.
