Síocracht

A sweet smelling, tart-tasting pepper-like flowering plant that grows wildly on the moors of L'entre-Deux. Colloquially known as 'psychocandy,' síochracht is commonly known for its mild to moderate magical and psychedelic properties when ingested and is enjoyed amongst the Anima as a recreational drug.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Síocracht is a spiked, globular plant that grows primarily on the moors of L'entre Deux. It and related variants are easily recognizable by their cephalium, a wool- and bristle-coated structure at the apex of the plant, containing a mass of areoles from which the small flowers grow: in its seedling stage this wool-and-bristle structure is a pale pink, but upon maturation to adulthood this wool becomes a deep, vibrant pink. The fruit of the plant is the same vivid pink and of a similar shape to the fruits of a pepper plant.

Compounds

  • Optional component of angfona bread

Geology & Geography

Though síocracht is believed to have originated on the moors of L'entre-Deux, the accessibility of the fruit from its flowering plant has led to frequent dispersal by birds and other gatherers. This dispersal has led to several variations of síocracht which can be found in Avalon and Broceliande respectively:
  • Síocracht Milis (sweet síocracht, golden psychocandy) - Broceliandic variant bearing golden wool and iridescent white fruit within. Often used in the production of traditional angfona.
  • Síocracht Liath (grey síocracht, moonlit psychocandy) - Avalonian variant bearing silver wool and gently glowing silver fruit within. Often used in magical rituals and spellcraft.
  • Taibhe Síocracht (black síocracht, ghost candy, black psychocandy) - Avalonian variant bearing black wool and partially spectral black fruit within. Commonly enjoyed as a delicacy by the Inmortui.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Because of its latent magical properties in its seedling state, síocracht is often steeped, mulled, and added to traditional angfona dough prior to baking. When consumed in this fashion it boosts the spirits of the consumer without the activation of any hallucinogenic oils that may have collected on the dried fruits. Among elder and/or more adventurous consumers it is commonly used as a recreational drug known as anáil sióg - the wool of the plant is rolled into paper along with the ground dry fruit, which accumulates a layer of hallucinogenic oil on its outer shell as the moisture leaves it.

Reusability & Recycling

In Uncanny society, the inert spikes of this plant are carefully removed, dried, and dyed for use in jewelry or crushed into powder to create cosmetics.
