The Spire

The Spire is a prison like no other, located on an isle in the Cudbron Ocean off the southern coast of Albion. Carved entirely out of the rock beneath the island, the prison is completely subterranean, with only a small entrance visible above ground level. Its name is derived from the tall and narrow structure that shapes the prison and for the small protrusion of twisted rock above the surface, which houses the prison's ventilation system and guards' quarters.    The Spire is designed to hold the most dangerous and notorious criminals in Albion, and its security measures are unparalleled. The prison is divided into multiple levels, each accessible by a series of narrow stairways and tunnels. The cells themselves are small and cramped, with no windows or natural light. Instead, they are illuminated by dim ever glowing orbs.   Despite its reputation as a terrifying and inescapable prison, there have been a few instances of successful escapes from the Spire. These rare occurrences are the stuff of legend and are whispered about in the criminal underworld. Those who manage to escape are considered the most skilled and cunning criminals in the kingdom.   The Spire is a grim reminder of the kingdom's determination to keep its most dangerous criminals under lock and key. It is a place of misery and despair, where the only hope for escape is the slim chance of being pardoned by the Grand Chancellor. For most of its inmates, however, the Spire is a prison from which there is no escape, and the only way out is through death.

Defenses

The real threat of the Spire, however, lies in its unique defence mechanism. The prison is built below sea level, and if any attempt to escape is made, a series of gates will open, allowing water to flood the prison from the surrounding ocean. The flooding is swift and fierce, and prisoners who are not able to reach higher ground are quickly swept away by the raging waters. The prison is also manned by a small army of highly trained guards, who are armed with weapons and magical artefacts designed to subdue and control the inmates. The guards are ruthless and unyielding, and any attempt to disobey or resist their authority is met with severe punishment.
