The Song of Tyr and Lanor

The Song of Tyr and Lanor is a Somon epic poem, told in numerous variations, dating back to the oldest known iteration in the early Lakorthian Age. It is a tragic tale of illicit love of princess and a knight subject to the king, her father. The two fall in love as Tyr, the Knight escorts Lanor the princess to her wedding night to a foreign prince. In some tellings this is due to magic, others as the two being in 'true love'.

 

Many aspects of the retelling change over time and place, and the values of the cuture telling the story. The characters always remain the same, as do the main events. The meeting of the two and their falling in love during their 'adventures' during the journey to her wedding, and their tragic death due to being unable to let go of their desire for one another.

 

Each variation of the story has its own 'adventures', though there a common running through them. The two set off, a ship wreak strands them. They stay in a cave while one of them is ill. The travels are meet with strange characters. She weds her new husband, both swearing to end their affair. Both cannot resist, but think the other has moved on. Tyr dies trying to return to his love. Lanor learns of his death and either dies herself, or mourns his lost to her dying day, depending on the telling.
