Fireball Frenzy - Part 1

As I write this, I'm sitting on an old bucket in the kitchens near the oven waiting on a fresh batch of pumpkin bread to finish baking. The weather has gotten cooler which is only making me more excited to spend my time baking cosy treats and spending time near the warmth of the ovens. The past couple days have been hectic and I'm grateful for this down time. We are still trying to figure out who caused the explosion near our tavern yesterday and why.   Yesterday morning we woke up bright and early to a halfling lady blasting through the front doors of our tavern requesting sausages and ale. She glowed of adventure as she effortlessly strolled to the bar, clothes stained with sweat and dirt, with her great axe secured on her back (the length of which was only an inch or so shorter than herself). Gretchen, apparently an old lifelong friend of Lars, had been traveling and recently stumbled across the city of Waterdeep seeking out new quests. The two had lost touch decades ago when Lars was apparently banned from his hometown for sticking his "wee wacker" in the mayors daughter. He fled to Waterdeep all those years ago to escape punishment for this "crime" and even changed his name. Gretchen stayed back and has been working ever since as an assassinator! I noticed a tattoo on her neck with tally marks... her kill count I suppose?   Almost as soon as we heard of Lars' interesting private affairs, a bright orange ball of light crashed right in front of our tavern! We ran to the windows and I nearly collapsed right then and there, as a dozen bodies were laying burnt to a crisp right in front of our doors. Smoke filled the sky above and small fires were burning on a lot of the shrubbery on the road ahead. I think Wiley saw something in the distance as he was about to run out the door - so I cast my new invisibility spell on him to help him out and then followed out the door behind him to try to put out any of the remaining fires. I ran into Fala and gave them a hug - I was so grateful to see them unharmed from the madness. We handed out goodberries and healing herbs to those in need and then ushered them into the tavern to keep them warm and give them food and drinks. My heart still aches for the lives that were lost..
