Tetra

/*Insert a piece of prose here that's pulled from the original peace treaty between the Tetra and mortals*/

There are four Tetra living in Remera, each for one of the cardinal directions and one of the four elements. The eastern dragon represents fire and is named Ignis ; the western dragon represents air and is named Caeli ; the northern dragon represents earth and is named Solum ; the southern dragon represents water and is named Unda.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They look like huge dragons.   They don’t particularly adhere to genders, and they all have the ability to shapeshift into either male or female humans. They’re more often females in human form.

Genetics and Reproduction

As dragons the Tetra cannot reproduce, but they can have children with humans or elves in human form. If they’re female when they mate, they must remain in human form as they carry the baby, which takes only three months to develop instead of nine. After that they may change back. If they’re male when they mate, their mortal mate’s pregnancy is of a normal duration. The children of these unions (and there is always a child, because the dragons cannot mate in human form and not have the result be a baby) inherit milder forms of their Tetra parent’s powers.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Tetra don't grow or change.

Ecology and Habitats

Each of the Tetra has a domain in Remera where they have free rein of their powers. Due to an agreement with the mortals eons ago, they have only restricted permissions elsewhere, which Ignis and Caeli resent. Ignis has the Eastern Sands, where fires regularly dance over the dunes; Caeli has a portion of grassland, the Western Winds, where the reeds whistle in the harsh wind; Solum has the Northern Burrows, a collection of burrows where everything growing flourishes; Unda has the Southern Springs, from which almost all of the water in Remera flows.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Solum and Unda keep to themselves as much as possible to avoid the drama that occurs when the Tetra come together; they have a mutual respect for each other for it. Ignis and Caeli interact with each other more and have both a rivalry and a romantic relationship.   When the Tetra do come together, they almost always end up squabbling over which of them is the most powerful.

Average Intelligence

They're highly intelligent.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Whenever a ruler is crowned in Remera, the Tetra come forth from their domains in dragon form and produce a pearl each from the center of their chests, which are then inset into the new ruler’s crown, a sign that the Tetra approve of the sovereign. In the beginning of the Tetra-mortal alliance this meant something, but now it’s largely just tradition.
Lifespan
The Tetra are immortal, but they can be slain (with great difficulty).
Average Height
13'-19'
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
