Hind Nawal Gazette

The Hind Nawal Gazette is the city's publication center, producing a newspaper called the Colored Journal. The Journal has been closely involved in the surging literacy talent in Alexandria. Riding this wave of literary focus is the al-Fatāh, a special journal produced for and by women in Alexandria. It is certainly among the first in the world. In fact, it is believed that in 1890 literacy among women was nearly twice the amount as in Cairo.
