William Berry (a.k.a. Bill)

William Berry's parents perished when he was only 7. The authorities would tell you it was an accidental death by fire, but Bill was there and what he saw was no accident. He witnessed his parents kneel on the floor with wide grins and unblinking eyes as the house was engulfed by flames. They did not move and they did not try and avoid their fate. No screams, no cries, just fire. Billy made his escape, but not after sustaining a serious injury to his left leg. After their deaths, William was sent to live with his only living relative, his great uncle, a wealthy and lonely business man that traded in stocks and retired to rural Texas to live on a ranch. Bill spent his years not in school, but working for his great uncle on the ranch, feeding and herding the cattle as a farm hand amongst the many others under his uncle's employ. Despite his left leg not working properly, he never stopped working. When William was 19, his great uncle suffered a lethal heart attack, leaving all of his wealth to William. With this newfound fortune, William went back to Chicago to investigate the death of his parents. In doing so, he discovered a few similar reports of burnings with similar circumstances and his trail led him into studies on the esoteric and the occult. After spending a large portion of his money on rare volumes, meetings with mystics and artifacts of interest, William's obsession was no longer about finding answers about his parents, but finding greater truths beyond this life. He decided that he was to travel the world in search of the truth. The first place he decided to look, was the Middle East.
