Welcome, seers, seekers and Caesars;

This page is put into being for the purpose of helping to guide the process of character creation moving forwards into this campaign. Now, you might be asking yourself, "Everett isn't this just a home game? This feels incredibly professional and formal!" to which I would, perhaps, respond "oh cool that's what I was going for". This is a step towards more polished products on my part- there is little I love more than telling a story through games, and so I am using the equivalent of Photoshop for myself, to continue to advance my skills.   Having gotten that out of the way, let's get into character creation- This world is one very similar to, but not entirely (of course) the same as our own. Most of its history is entirely accurate to any modern textbook you could pick up, or any of the current Wikipedia pages, but that is not true for everything. These changes are small, and meticulously chosen in hopes of creating a world that is slightly more mystical than our boring one. There's a very reasonable chance that having finished this game, you might not even know what they were! This is all laid out to the point that this is NOT our world, as much as it may look like it at first.   Earth Adjacent is a world of desires, ones that influence each and every being on the planet, and some of these desires can drive people to move mountains. The most important question here truly is:   What is your heart's truest and deepest desire?   There's no reason that everyone has to know it, but it is incredibly important that you know it. It will shape some choices your character will make, and determine what their direction their Extra Everett Progression(TM) will take.   If you're looking for information on what your character's past might look like, feel free to explore the Atlas and Encyclopedia tabs to find some places to connect to. The Atlas features a list of neighborhoods with specific places in those spaces included within. The Encyclopedia features prominent organizations, and among other things will likely have much more of its contents revealed as you all learn about things in game. What is visible information at the start of the game is probably less than half of what there will be, moving forwards. In the case that you want to be from elsewhere- that's great and fine! Make a character that you want to play, no matter what they may look like.
This game will be run in 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu, a system I have come to know and love very recently. Its character sheets are rich and complex, and allow any nature of character to come to life before your eyes. For help with the actual mechanics of making the character, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to guide you through it over something like a voice or video call before we get started, or perhaps just on the day of another gathering.
The game will take place in the city of Alexandria, Egypt, in the year 1923, mostly. The city is currently forcibly occupied by the British, following a ten-hour bombardment of the city ~30 years ago. Such an event took place due to the unrest over the oppressive hand of the British- and things have gotten no more comfortable in the 30 years the city has been forcibly occupied. However, Alexandria is also a city that changes hands a lot... from the Egyptians of Rhakotis, to the Greeks of Macedonia, to the Ptolemaic Dynasty, to the Roman Empire, to Cleopatra (briefly), to the Holy Roman Empire to the Byzantine Empire to the Persian Empire to the Arabian Empire, which split to the Mamluks, to the Ottoman Empire, to Napoleon(briefly) to the Ottoman Empire (again??) before finally landing in the pudgy, sweaty hands of the British. There are nearly as many ruins in this city as there are functional buildings- which is, frankly, quite a large number for the both.
