Tree Spirit

It is believed that seeing a tree spirit is a blessing from the gods. There are not many in existence and they are unlikely to be spotted by most sentient creatures. They only live in the Quiet Thicket in Onira. Living for so long that the lifespans of the animals arounds them start and end in a blink of an eye. Tree spirits can go decades in meditation without moving. They believe it in an honor to be home to small creatures or to help the forest grow. The first tree spirit came forth in the middle of The Before Times, since then as the Quiet Thicket has become more and more magical, more tree spirits have emerged.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tree spirits are bi-pedal with two very long legs and two very long arms with 7 thin fingers on each hand. They have a crown of thin branch like structures that grow from their upper backs to the tops of their heads. These branches are covered in leaves that take after their host tree. They follow the same cycles as normal trees, meaning some lose their leaves in winter.   The skin on a tree spirit is very rough and resembles the texture and color of the bark from their host tree. Although they look like bark, their skin moves easily and stretches, giving them a greater range of movement than normal trees.

Genetics and Reproduction

Tree spirits come into being when a tree absorbs so much magic that is explodes in life. After this burst of energy a tree spirit steps out of its host tree and into the world.

Naming Traditions

Although tree spirits speak common they do not take on names that can be spoken in common. Their names sound more like wind rustling through the leaves on a tree. It is nearly impossible for other species to recognize the names of tree spirits.
