Serf's cant

There is no known source of Serf's cant, but the earliest it can be traced back to is the time of serfs under King Arrthas of Arrlonde in times before The Peace. Used as a method of conversation between serfs hard at work plowing fields or doing any number of tasks while being watched by guards or city men. From a distance or just passing by someone using serf's cant, you would think they're speaking plain common. But under scrutiny, it is a secret code used for conversing near officials to relay information without the fear of eavesdropping.

Serf's cant was widely used in the generation before The Treaty at Amberfall. There were rumors of a revolt to overthrow the King and his council by the poor. Plans and small skirmishes with guards were made using the coded language. In fact, only weeks were left before the planned insurrection when The Peace was made effectively ending the near enslavement of the serfs.

Centuries later the code has been all but lost. Those that can understand and speak it use it as a parlor trick. Where once was a full language is now just a few dozen words that make people question their understanding of the common tongue. Though there are increasing numbers of accounts in taverns of people using the language hushedly. Rumors are spreading of another insurrection of sorts to overthrow the current Open Lord of Amberfall. He is loved by many, but not all.

A potential sister language to Serf's cant is a lesser-known "Rogues' cant." It is said to be used by rogues and thieves alike to communicate secretly. This underground and scarcely known language is most likely an extension of Serf's cant at least in part.
