Lemuria Valley

Cradled on all sides by mountains that seem to scrape the very tops of the clouds, Lemuria is virtually cut off from all other parts of the world. Situated uniquely on the continent of Nïr Morred, it's geographic location allows for an explosion of jungle life to thrive year round. The peoples who live here often find their communities nestled amongst the very vegetation that provides for them. Many rivers flow freely into the large tropical lakes that dot the landscape. Home to familiar beasts, Lemuria is also home to a plethora of strange creatures, such as monkies with two tails and large 6 legged herd animals!   Though it is unknown how; the Nisseans constructed several large stone cities within the valley. These cities defy the canopies of the trees that surround them. Within them, nature is corralled into an orderly fashion for beautification as any rivers that may flow through them are used as transport. Impressive to behold, these structures are among the most advanced ever constructed.

Geography

Lemuria sprawls from base to base of the mountains that enclose it on all sides and although the valley is cut off from the world, its landscape is impressively varied. Crystal clear rivers run from high in the mountains, emptying into large oligotrophic lakes that dot the land. Large tracts of jungle flood 80% of the valley, while the remainders are made up of rolling savannas and a few hills. Everything runs cohesively into each other ebbing and flowing with the very seasons.   There are also plenty of scenic overlooks near the mountains that allow a glimpse into the lives of birds that flock the upper levels of tree cover below, and many varied types of flora and fauna reside in all portions of the valley. Just as the landscape shifts dramatically from misty rainforest to sprawling savanna, so too do the plants and animal transition with it.   Though humid for most of the year, many parts of the valley do experience very short arid seasons. The jungles and rainforests, however, never seem to dry. The surrounding mountains protect Lemuria from the harsh cold that winter brings and it allows many fickle organisms a chance at prolonged life because of it.

Fauna & Flora

The flora in Lemuria ranges from common to incredibly rare. The savannas and hills are often home to things such as Sage Tea, Amaranth, and Basil while things like Soursop, Leeks, and Cashews can be found as tree cover becomes thicker. The Jungles of Lemuria, however, are host to things like Fringed Bleeding Heart, Cast's Claw Vine, and Copaiba; Passion Fruit, Piquia Fruit, and Courbaril trees. The almost tropical mountainous regions of Lemuria are home to Rain Forest Hyssop, Mangosteen, and Carambola.   The valley is also home to a wide host of creatures as well. Namely, the Nisseans. In addition to the 'proto-elves' who trace their origins here, the jungles and savannas are also home to Jaguars, Tapirs, Sloths, Boars, Gorillas, Ocelots, Anacondas, Caracals, Parasaurs, and Okapi. Some megafauna such as Giant Jaguars, Moa, Jungle Elephants, Brontosaurs, Allosaurs, and Giant Lemurs are also rumored to exist deep within.

Natural Resources

The fruits and oils from the jungle trees are essential to everyday life for the vast ecosystem. From sustenance to medicinal uses, most of the flora is usable in some way.   The rivers and lakes provide unique fishing sources and abundant fresh water while Tapir, Boar and Okapi can be hunted for food in the surrounding areas.   The mountains find themselves rich with raw platinum while the lowlands hide meteoric iron just beneath the surface for those who know where to look.   Wood can also be found in incredible abundance all through Lemuria Valley, having been used in tools and construction for thousands of years.
