Harder and with more tensile strength and ductility that regular steel, Shadow Steel is so black that it absorbs all light and dulls all sound around it. During its creation, the black iron can absorb huge amounts of dark arcane energy, shadow magics and spells being woven into its being.

Physical & Chemical Properties

During its creation, the black iron can absorb huge amounts of dark arcane energy, shadow magics and spells being woven into its being. This means the metal does not reflect any light back, being total darkness, like a void in space, it gives off an aura that muffles the noise around it, meaning sounds are dulled from anything close to a source of Shadow Steel. 
It takes arcane enchantment very well, especially those magics that deal with shadows, darkness and concealment. 
It also makes excellent armour and weapons on its own without the magical properties as it is a much improved form of the steel and only the most skilled and practised of artisans could wield it. 
Some part of the magic imbued in the metal means it is almost totally immune to the effects of oxidisation, but if left exposed to sunlight for long periods of time, the magical properties of the metal will fade.
