Azezstos the Hungering Dark

The Manifestation of Darkness hungers eternal.
Azeztos has no known physical form, it appears only as shdow that spreads and consumes everything it touches. It's past is equally elusive. What is known that the Mind Flayer Empire, deep within their capital, attempted to perform a ritual and it went awry. At the heart of the Mind Flayer Capital a rift was torn open and in an instant a pitch black shroud fell throughout the Underdark. The Drow were protected by Lolth but the rest of the denizens of the Underdark were consumed by Azeztos. Only a few Mind Flayer Hives were left after Azeztos devouring, those that were hidden away in the far corners of the caverns.
Azeztos was later banished from the World and left behind magical objects as keystones for it to be summoned once more. All but one known keystone have been destroyed.
For now Azeztos is far beyond the world, relegated to the farthest stars in the night sky. It consumes them, devouring constellations over years or days, it is unclear. It desires to return to our world to devour the rest of life upon it.
