The Natural Tyrants

(Legacy Content)
The Natural Tyrants are a collection of supernatural entities that have either been animated from the earth by the extreme surplus of planar essence or have traveled here for an unknown purpose from a different plane and chose to make Alore their battleground. Very little in-depth knowledge is available about these beasts, so everything gathered in this document is only what has been observed through their very rare interactions with the world during the Calamities, as well as readings on their presence while sealed gathered during the First Era before the Line in the Clouds/The Cloud Barrier formed.   Below is a list of all natural tyrants currently known to the civilizations of Alore:
  • Caldera, Tyrant of the Lands: This near-continent sized creature was animated by the extraplanar forces of both the planes of fire and earth - thus culminating in a beast of land. The beast appears as an enormous turtle, with six limbs - four arms, two legs - and a volcano atop its shell. While unsealed, this creature constantly spews thousands of tons of molten rock and pyroclastic materials all over its surroundings, either as part of its melee attacks leaving swaths of magma across the ground it touches, launched from its fiery maw in a breath weapon that can sweep away cities, propelled from the massive composite volcano on its back, or as a result of its weight and residual heat melting the ground around and beneath it. Reportedly, its mere unsealed presence is enough to spark tectonic activity across hundreds of miles around it.
  • Caldera is believed to be sealed on the floor of The Gyranoc Ocean hundreds of miles away from the similar resting place of Tarn.
  • Tarn, Tyrant of the Seas: This enormous, sea-spanning beast was animated by the extraplanar forces of the plane of water. The beast appears as a massive eel or serpent, with a crown of horns atop its head, and several hundred blue-glowing circles across the sides of its body. While unsealed, this creature will constantly excrete hundreds of thousands of gallons of water into its surroundings, whether it coming from its maw as an extremely high velocity jet that can cut through mountains, or from the holes on the sides of its body. Every ebb and sway of this creature creates tsunamis that can travel near a forth the distance of the Cloud Barrier, end to end.
  • Tarn is believed to be sealed on the floor of The Gyranoc Ocean hundreds of miles away from the similar resting place of Caldera.
  • Brume, Tyrant of the Skies: This eclipsing creature was animated by the extraplanar forces of the plane of air. The beast appears as an enormous avian, its body mostly consisting of its wings that can span across entire mountain ranges or continents, connected in the middle by its comparatively small body. While unsealed, this beast releases enough gas - be that breathable or otherwise - to almost double the size of Alore's atmosphere in approximately ten years. Its effects on the weather in the areas around it are also significant: the creature discharges extremely volatile lightning blasts from its wingtips constantly, the beast is always followed by violent hurricane strength winds, and can breathe freezing blizzards from its earthen beak.
  • Brume is believed to be sealed as part of the Skycrown, becoming one with the mountain.
  • Abyssos, Tyrant of Death: This abominable monstrosity seems to be an entity of the Abyssal Wastes that came to this plane for an unknown purpose. It appears as a city-sized, flying ovoid with plates of thick, chitinous armor along its sides, glowing purple tendrils flowing from the back, and a large, purple, slitted eye at its front. There are also smaller eyes all along the surface in small cut outs of the armor. Additionally, four, six-fingered hands float around its body under its control, each with another eye in their palms. The beast also has the ability to transform its front into a four-jawed, fang-filled mouth which spans halfway across its body when opened. The abomination can launch beams of abyssal energy from all of its eyes, annihilating near anything they touch.
  • Abyssos is believed to be sealed behind the Abhorrent Wall and under the Heinous Sigil, beneath the Skycrown range, and under the watchful eye of Galovere, the Frozen Keeper.
  • Celestas, Tyrant of Life: This creature seems to be an entity of the Celestial Heights that came to this plane for an unknown purpose. It appears to have changed shape since its initial appearance, first being a relatively simplistic orb of white light, then supposedly changing to what it deemed to be a representation of creation in our world: It now appears as a female Alorean of colossal stature with three pairs of gleaming white wings, dressed in flowing white robes. This being subverts traditional expectations of benevolence, as it is still extremely hostile to all things it comes across. Aside from physical power, the creature seems capable of causing anything it wills to evaporate or disintegrate into dust, and create almost anything imaginably possible, even things that defy our current laws of reality.
  • Celestas is believed to be sealed deep beneath the bastion of Vistelle, under the watchful eye of the All-Seer Magus.
This list encompasses all known tyrants currently on Alore. This is not to say that more do not exist on other planes, planets, or even beneath our view here. All of these tyrants have things in common with each other as well: the tyrants are all hostile to each other and the environment around them, they seem to care little for any life not large enough to garner their attention - much akin to how an Alorean would feel about an ant - they seem to wander without real purpose, supposing a lack of true intelligence, and whenever they appear to be slain, they resurrect at the spot of their death twenty-four hours later. Additionally, two other beings were thought to be tyrants due to their similar - or even greater - levels of power when compared to the natural tyrants, though since they were defeated, they have not returned to life. Those two being Balraious-Kaneig and the Colossus of Alore.

As with every writing endeavor, I would deeply appreciate constructive feedback, be it in the form of grammar corrections, naming ideas (which I have the most trouble with), or general questions or feedback about the world or anything within it. I thank you for your dedication of time to reading this article.
