The Battle of Razor Hills
The Conflict
Prelude
Kazaktar Gnawler's attack on an imperial caravan train carrying supplies, men and weapons to the Irongate through the Razor Hills started the Conflict.
Deployment
As King Terrowin III Whitehall got word of the event he and his son gathered an army of 8000 men to trap Kazaktar's forces as the Razor Hills are hard to maneuver.
Battlefield
The battlefield were mostly rocky hills and deep ravines. There are also caves and tunnels in the ravine which are difficult to move through, but they could be used for cover and shelter by the troops. The razor hills are known for being some of the most difficult terrain to maneuver within Revendell, something Terrowin thought could be used against the gnolls but would become his downfall instead.
Conditions
The graylands are prone to both seismic activity and thermal activity. The entire region was much hotter than it should for its altitude and location in the north. The heat of the thermal vents located in many of the cave which houses the soldiers and the summer heat made the ravine almost unbearably hot, some days could reach temperatures of almost 40 degrees. The heat is believe to have caused at least
The Engagement
Terrowin planned on trapping the gnoll forces in the spikey valley close to Torrine so the military located there could rain arrows on them from behind. When Terrowin and his army charged into the valley Kazaktar's army was not to be found, but a rain of arrows still came from the hills above. Kazaktar had taken out Torrine and stationed his own archers on the hills above. The gnoll sorcerer Gnoz Flamemane brought down meteors upon them with his magic which closed off their exit and killed countless soldiers in the process. Terrowin and most of his army was now trapped in the valley and over the next month and a half they were under constant arrow rain.
Outcome
The battle of Razor hills left thousands dead, both soldiers and civilians. Torrine was razed to the ground and most of its citizens were killed while a few dozen were taken as slaves. About 450 of the soldiers would also be taken as slaves. 3400 soldiers returned to Revendell hurt, most of them would never recover and die some time later. The king and crown prince of Revendell was also killed in the battle.
Death Count: 7 794
- 3400 Reven guards died in the ravine, 200 of which died from heatstroke
- 2000 People, mostly civilians were killed in Torrine when the village was razed by Kazaktar
- 52 Reven guards and civilians were killed on the original caravan attack
- 2142 Reven guards died from injuries after returning to Revendell, 63% of all hurt during the battle
- 200 Reven guards were never found and are assumed to be dead
Aftermath
The Battle of Razor Hills left Revendell vulnerable as much of its army was killed or kidnapped. And without a strong king to lead them into whatever comes next, the kingdom of Revendell is very weakend. Revendell also lost Torrine and most of its people adding around 2000 casualties to the total. The loss of Torrine also leaves the Irongate vulnerable as their supply line is now cut off and they can not get news, food or reinforcements from the Empire of Revendell.
