City of Elm

Lost Nadwë city: Elm. This magnificent city is placed deep in the lush and wild Elmon forest. This place is like nothing else and reminds most of those who have experienced it as a big web of trees, vines and damp leaves. It's extremely difficult to get to the city, and only a few expeditions have been made there.   Though more than a couple of flybys by the Domian satellites has made researchers able to map most of the city and estimate its size and inhabitants.

Architecture

Buildings are not extremely tall and tend to rather than go up for more space, go down underground for more space. This has made archaeologist curious as to why that was the Nadwës approach. Theories of harsh weather being a threat, and therefore going underground is the best option, is thought of as a possible answer.   The area of Elm is rather quiet in underground activity - tectonic activity and volcanic - so that may be why the underground housing and walkways still stand.   Elm is surrounded and some might say embedded in greenery - Elmon forest runs around and through the city, and makes it almost invincible to the naked eye. The architecture is affected by this fact, as the Nadwë probably already knew a lot of the surrounding forest and its destructive nature. Building has been made to surround the trees, and some even have trees going right through the roofs intentionally. That means, most of the buildings is made from a hard material made from 3 different metals, and 2 different stones. Ornaments and large symbols are spread over the walls as decorations. It also looks like there is a way to distinguish buildings from one and another by some special symbols above the doors indicating the person living there and their profession. Some symbols above the doors look more like stars or planets as if they had a special bond to the universe.   When looking at the buildings in visible light (the light our human eyes can see) they look plain and even dull at times. Most of the walls have the same grey-brown colour, though when looking at the city in ultraviolet light, it suddenly lightens up in bright at colourful colours across the town. Like an old European city, with red, brown, yellow, blue and purple-ish grey colours.   Some buildings around the city do look quite different than the other buildings. Normally, we see the Nadvë in Elmon forest build very low and underground, but some few building go up into the trees. They swirl around the bigger trees, and some go all the way to the top. They might have been outlooks for the people of Elm, or something completely different - archaeologist are still figuring that out.

Location

Deep in the forest of Elmon

Continent

Feimir

Area/size

88.97 km2

Estimated population

1.5 million inhabitants.

Age

Earliest buildings seem to date back thousands of years - probably built around 1500 years ago.

Importance

It is thought to have been a very important city, and might even have been one of the biggest around. Maybe the Capital.

Cave systems

Upon further investigations from satellite pictures taken at different frequencies - visible light, infrared and ultraviolet - they found evidence of cave system underneath the city like an underground highway/walkway. It seems like fast travelling to other places likely happened underneath the city, away from plants and bushes above ground.   Though if this was the case, it seems like they also had streets to walk above ground, so the cave systems being a form of travelling is still a theory.   These systems stretch far across the city, some even further than the city borders. There are theories of animals being the one that made these cave systems, and that might be true but hard to tell. Some caves have been found deeper in the forest, caves that look the same as in Elm, which supports the theory of it originating from animals.

The shore

Elm lies upon the seashore at the western side of Feimir with mountains surrounding both sides of the little shore. It's not a place to be swimming, but rather a stone-filled shore. The ocean slowly eats away from the mountains and carves small caves underneath the water.
