Avi Caerule
Born Avania Caerule, Avi is part of the latest generation of Caerule izavel farmers. The second of three children in the rural environment, he spends equal amounts of time mediating for and arguing with his family members. He- like many adolescents- enjoys pushing the boundaries of his currently limited world. Though a timid and anxious 17-year-old, he expresses himself through simple (and slightly temperamental) experiments with izavel (much to the dismay of his parents). His hands are stained blue near-permanently, the trademark of any izavel farmer. Avi's face and mane of hair is consistently covered in smudges of dirt, grease, and even pigment- from work and experiments gone wrong.
Avi has spent most of his life on a modest farm in the northern Briareos maintained mostly by the Caerule family. The land is one of a few izavel farms owned by the royal family of Cridala Cove. Avi learned the traditions of growing izavel that have been passed down through generations from a young age. He and his family cultivated, harvested, dried, powdered, and packaged the plant all on the land. Occasionally, the members of the family travel to the port city of Cridala Cove for trade and maintenance of the sigils on the aqueduct system.
It was on one such trading expedition that Avi met Person McFace, a young crewmember of a Saeno ship. Avi began to notice the differences in Saeno magic; beautiful complex artistry, compared to the industrial and practical Kaddite magic. He soon began to obsess, working to understand the nature of artifice and izavel root. Combining his limited knowledge of Kaddite marks with Person's understanding of Saeno marks, the two seek to find a way to bridge the methods to create more powerful and long lasting marks.
