Medicinal
Both the leaves and the seeds are used in small doses to treat pain. A tea or paste of the dried plant can be applied to a patient to bring easier sleep when sick or wounded. The tea can also be used recreationally, for relaxation purposes or to induce holy visions. The administrator must take care as death can occur from consistent or high doses. An Izavel death can be recognized by the signature blue dyed mouth and tongue.
Artifice
Izavel has use as an engraving filler and a fuel in building Arcurios. The root is peeled, dried, and ground into a pigment for filling engravings. When finished the pigment and ink will be a deep indigo. While there are some odd contradictions, such as the aqueduct system of
Cridala Cove, the root appears to work best when as an amplifier to biomaterials. Skin and Leather seem to have the best effects and the pigment seems to play a role in enhancing previously existing natural effects. Saenean izavel tattoos are famous for their elaborate designs and practical use. They can assist with eyesight, strength, or even decrease the need for sleep. In animal husbandry, the effects seem similar. Izavel enhanced steeds are prized for their ability to go farther distances before needing rest.
One strange outlier, as stated above are the aqueducts in Cridala Cove. The architect of this system, to this day, is unknown. However, izavel pigment is added to water in the channels each day. This creates a miraculous upward motion as the water passes each precisely placed engraving. One theory is that the izavel enhances the movement of some native algae, but further experimentation is required.
Dye
Rumors of Briareos' izavel-dyed woolen products travel even beyond Tel Rialis. With the stories of wool that can repel water, and keep a body warm, even on the coldest nights, many nobles clamor for the chance to own one of these. Though true magical ability when used as a dye is dubious, the rich blue color created from the roots and stems of the Izavel plant is undeniably unique.
