Menione, The Ruins of Old Pessac

Pessac is an industrial farming community with extremely fertile lands. People believe that the dead from the Devil King War was fought on the soil, and those who had fallen are giving back to the land. It has been documented that the farmlands reveal the ghostly presence of soldiers fighting during the Oeilbrillant (oy-bril-yant), a comet that comes around every 100 years. Another theory is that the blessed soil keeps the dead of the nearby ruins trapped within the old city, and the comet weakens the magic in the soil, allowing the dead to appear in the fields. The locals and archaeologists refer to the ruins as Old Pessac. Neither knows its proper name, as exploring the ruins has its perils. The ruins belong to the dead and unknown monstrosities corrupted by Old Pessac's fall.   The old historical text mentions a bastion of the divine in the region known as Angoisse (oo-n-g-wah-aw-s). However, no one has been able to confirm the true nature of the ruins. The area had several other bastion cities of high arcana and divine spirits. The maps marked those lost city-states that had been lost or destroyed during the War of the Devil King. Historians believe the city was one of the first to fall during the War of the Devil King. That was during the time of a power-hungry Wizard, King Oberan, launched a full-scale assault on the world of Altair. The entire region is near the borders of Oberan. The warriors of the Nine Hells obliterated it.   The city's outer rings are relatively safe to explore, but those who explored it found no information revealing the city's name. Staying there for too long will bring the spirits from the inner rings towards you. There have been many attempts to explore the inner rings of the ruined city. Unfortunately, none were able to gather any valuable data or never returned. Those who have returned talk about the hoards of undead lurking in the shadows and reflections. The ghost of many tortured souls rending the flesh off of those they contact. There have been sightings of horrors coming from the ruins and attacking livestock. One of the surviving clerics on one expedition, Apostal Jonah Selvin of Helm, mentioned the feeling of fiends within the middle of the largest ring. These are most likely survivors of the Devil King War who managed to escape King Oberan's control. The kingdom had barred any new formal investigations and declared the area highly hazardous.
