Basic Information

Anatomy

The Anglerfish has a fishlike anatomy. Its fins are short but wide, perfect for a botton dwelling creature, the tail subby but strong enough to break a fisherman's arm, if it hits with full force. The most characteristic trait of the armored anglerfish is its appendage which has a shining, bioluminescent crystal which it uses to attract prey. As the name states, the scales of the armored anglesfish are large and thick and they are almost impossible to pierce with ordinary weapons, so because of this the scales are sometimes used by the underdark armorsmiths for example to make breastplates.

Genetics and Reproduction

The armored anglerfish reproduces only every ten years, and even the little fishlings are abundant after they hatch, they are often hunted by other fish and water-dwelling creatures and the young anglerfish provide an important spurce of food for the creatures of underdark, but they are also very much enjoyed in the dinner tables of the drow nobles. The poorer folk rarely get to eat the armored anglerfish and have to do with cheaper alternatives, which are easier to catch and are more abundant in the less deep waters.

Ecology and Habitats

The armored anglerfish lives in the bottom of the deepest waters and therefore it's difficult to catch, not only because its habitat, but because of its hardened scales. Catching anglesfish need lot of skill and special equipment.
