Talab'nathlua

Talab'nathlua is the sole drow city on the surface, at least so far that the surface people know. It's small, but politically important settlement under the jurisdiction of Ivaerenor.

Demographics

The demographic in the city is mostly elvish, either of dark or wood elf origin, or mix of those two. There are some human ancestry mixed in, but it is much rarer.

Government

The city is controlled by the city council, which itself does answer to The Elder Council of Ivaerenor, at least in theory, but the arcane advisor and the first woman of the city, Idilbryn Rilyndar, doesn't care about the old elven men and their traditions.

History

Talab'nathlua was born out of necessity. During The Turbulence, or the Great Cave-in as they call it in The Underdark, many important routes were cut off the grid, when numerous tunnels collapsed. The first inhabitants of Talab'nathlua were a varying crowd from different social backgrounds, but most of The Dark Elves ethnicity. The nobles, commonborns and slaves all fled to the only direction they still could flee: up. The motley crew of several hundred people arrived to the surface in small waves. They had happened in the middle of the lands of some wood elven tribes who resided on the area. The high elves of Ivaerenor were alarmed about these dark strangers, but instead of massacring the refugees or forcing them back to the dangerously unstable tunnels, they decided to diplomatically handle the situation.
A rehabitation and re-education program was formed to rehabilitate the drows into the societal rules of the surfaceborns and especially to the traditions of the high elves. Despite some setbacks, the program has been rather succesful. The evil Spider Queen Lolth has been abandoned and the faithful have turned towards the good deity Eilistraee.
