The Flail Snail

This breed of snails lives in dark, moist places like caves and tunnels of Underdark. Against the threats they don't have anything else to protect themselves with but their shell. They are quite harmless creatures in general, which is surprising to most other things that lurk in the darkness. Wherever they go, they leave a streak of slime in their wake, coating the ground and sometimes themselves with it.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They start small, living in small family or herds. They grow throughout their whole life and the biggest recorded snails have been the size of two draft horses. Their shells have antimagic properties and the mucus they covered themselves with can be used in potions and poisons, just like basically every part of the creature. That is why it is such a rare sight nowadays.

Genetics and Reproduction

They hatch from eggs.

Dietary Needs and Habits

It seems that after the Turbulence they like to feed on magical crystals and are thus, quite magical themselves. Their excrement has been collected and used for medicine with promising results.

Conservation Status

Rare above the surface, and even rare the deeper in the Underdark one goes, as there are more creatures which like to much on them as a snack. Often also overhunted by alchemists and other people knowledgeable of all the creature's magical abilities and uses.
