Travelbread

What is travelbread, or travel bread, varies greatly from culture and area to other. In general travel bread is something, often bread but not always, people back up for their travels. It is something that won't perish too easily, does well in different temperatures and handles humidity, too. It is something that can keep, if not indefinetly, at least for a long time. The most common form of travel bread is a dough baked into squares or triangles and wrapped in cloth. What is put in the dough is the thing that  makes travelbread different: it might contain almost anything. The travel bread can also be either sweet or savoury, or something in between. The most used additions to the dough are dried nuts and berries, honey, sugar, dried pieces of fruits or fruit juice in dough instead of water or other liquid like milk or sourmilk. The savoury versions may contain pieces of finely minced dried jerky, cheese, or pickled and/or dried pieces of various vegetables.   The consistency of travelbread vary too, depending on flour and grains used. Sometimes it may resemble more of a müsli or granola bar, when in other areas it is more like a stuffed bread or thin hardtack. Travelbread is usually very light, so it is easy to take with. In some areas the travelbread is made into huge loafs, which are cut before cooling and look more like bricks than bread. Those are often mass-produced for bigger amount of eaters; for example this style of travelbread is favored by the traveling caravans due to the easier way to stack them and uniform size to ensure that everyone gets the same amount of food.

Significance

Culturally travelbread has most significance in regions which are difficult to reach and when traversing those lands, having a few extra rations may make a great difference between life and death. For example, in The Old Sea which nowadays is an arid desert region, the significance of travelbread and rations in general is extremely important.
Rarity
Very common. It is most often found in rations the travelers make themselves of buy from marketplace or elsewhere.
