A I: Barred Cave
If one would traverse the Endless Forest, coming across some smaller cave systems or overhangs would generally not be considered a rare or anomalous sight.
They are actually found to be spread out quite generously, with most of them serving as shelter for the native wildlife, such as Dusk Bears or Unicorns.
However, if you were to travel to the more northern center of the forest, about a day's march away from the Lumberjack Settlement, you would eventually come across a rather strange-looking and unexplainable overhang cave.
The cave in question is positioned at the foot of a small hill, with a miniscule clearing leading to its wide but compared to its inner size just a bit smaller entrance.
Now, what makes this cave so special and mysterious is that its entrance appears to be completely sealed off by sturdy metal bars and a single jail door, without any proper reason as to explain why.
Furthermore, the cave itself also does not appear to be particular spacious or to serve any important purpose. As one would be able to clearly see every angle of the inside of the cave from outside, revealing the floor to be naturally overgrown by grass, the inner walls having some vines growing over them, as well as a ragged sleeping bag and some run down crates and barrels spread out throughout the cave.
The most common and reasonable theory so far would be that this cave was once used as a hidden prison for some bandits to lock up their captives. But upon closer inspection, even this theory quickly became highly unlikely. As this cave does not show any signs of attempted escapes, nor any bones or remains of previous occupants who were left in there to die.
Additionally, every time someone would break open the jail door to this cave, to either try to investigate or plunder this shallow space, the next time someone would find it, the entrance to the cave would be entirely resealed again, almost as if no one was ever there.
Leaving the true origin and purpose of this strange cave to be clouded in an almost eerie sense of mystery.
