Session 4.0 The home front

General Summary

In this episode we pick up after the events of the raid and destruction of Site C.   The party makes their way along the coastal cliffs through torrential rains and slowly but eventually find evidence of a manor house in the distance on the beach. The party investigates and happens upon 6 deserters who are slaughtered but for one they spare. Molli and Udo permit the survivor to leave as they had deserted their unit already. They find an old rowboat so they decide to make the return trip by sea. That afternoon Fassea notes there are conflicts going on off the coast so they will need to be careful.   After a day of rest the party casts off and rows toward home. with the tide coming in and the wind to their backs they make excellent time the first half of the day. Bolstered by that they decide to push on to mouth of the river and toward Karna. This stretch is much harder and wares down the crew as now the tide is going out and they are fighting the flow of the river engorged by the recent rains. With daylight fading they decide to just make for the same shore as Karna and make the rest of the trip overland.   Shortly after making landfall they can spot that Soki sabotage and raiding is evident. They are even spotted by a rider. They move as fast as they can in their exhausted state to the city where they are met and after a short interrogation the city guard. They are greeted and return home. Molli returns to her family home, Fassae has a room for her at an inn and Udo and Keimen are guests at the Udzak house.   The next day they meet with 2 Waay Hands, the Princess's court sorcerer. They describe their adventures, who they met, and what they saw. They are given writ to receive 500gp each at the castle - their reward for their service. With that they take some much deserved downtime.   Significant downtime activities:   Molli reengages with her guild and sells off her lightning wall, beyond that business is break even. She reconnects with her extended family.   Fassae hatches a plan to infiltrate the castle. As part of that plan she has a city page uniform made. meanwhile she spends time at the Noospheric University and engages in deep research in History, Arcana, and nature of the area. At the end of the week she indeed infiltrates the castle and mingles with the servants in the kitchens, meets a few knights, spends the entire day as a page at the castle. This is almost ends in disaster when she decides to check in on the Baron office and runs right into him. She talks her way out of it though, but learns there are big plans in the works.   Udo decides to approach the guard to lead a search and destroy mission against the Soki Saboteurs pillaging the countryside. He recruits 10 knights skilled at short weapons and hand to hand, recruits 5 lizardfolk rangers and 1 druid. He leads this party and they hunt and kill the Soki forces. and after a few days the saboteurs pull out of Karna's countryside suffering too many losses. Udo invests quite a bit of coin in this venture but comes back with 30 more in profit from spoils.   Keimen gets a job at the shipwright ship outfitting merchant ships into warships for privateers. At night he wagers his winnings doing feats of strength.This is break even but it earns him recognition and some renown.   At the end of downtime Peace is declared, the army of Tienena is pulling out. With their secret weapon destroyed and their siege broken they have lost the tempo and advantage in this war. There is much celebrating in the street and several of the characters are swept up in it. Eventually they with the help of Keimen converge on the House of Udzak. Here the Baron tells them of their next plans for the party. The city needs to have a diplomatic mission in Tienena to make sure peace remains and that the Prince in Exile will not be granted anymore invasions. The party will be mixed in with the diplomat's entourage as body guards and advisors. First because the ambassador will be Gwenti, the Baron's wife, and he trusts the party will be more than enough to protect her. Second, it turns out that the former princess Varna had an audience with Clause Von Staub, who wanted her to fund an expedition for some artifacts. She refused, but the Prince in Exile must have funded the expedition instead, getting the weapons. The Princess would like the party to break off and find this complex and bring back cyphers and artifacts to protect the city.   There will be a peace celebration party in 2 days, after the party they will get the formal contract for the mission.
