Agean Watchers

"Be careful what you whisper in the shadows, for the shadows might be listening..."
- Kobek Geed, Agean Watcher turned Cyanos Resistance informant, AB 1738

Composition

Manpower

The true numbers of the Agean Watchers are unknown to anyone outside of the Orizonian Chairman's inner circles. It is rumored that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Watchers around Alterra all reporting back to the rulers of Orizon.

Equipment

Individual Watchers are equipped with crossbows, standard crossbow bolts, gilded petrifying crossbow bolts, daggers of gilding, pearl bands of communication, and bands of cloaking. Higher ranking members may earn cloaks of invisibility.

Structure

Agean Watchers answer directly to the chairman of Orizon with only one tier of award for members who have committed to over a decade of service or commit an act of heroism as described by their fellow members. Their squad structure is typically in even numbers but varies to prevent commoners from planning around their formations.

Tactics

Agean Watchers tend to take a more defensive style and focus on remaining hidden from combatants. From the shadows, Watchers often use their crossbows to take down enemies or trespassers. Their gilding bolts are used to make an example of those who venture too close to prohibited areas or those who continuously speak ill of Orizon's Chairman.

Training

Prior to becoming an Agean Watcher, trainees must become citizens of Orizon and renounce any previous allegiances to any outside nations or organizations. Training often entails stealth training, investigation skills, intelligence gathering, sharpshooting, and etiquette.

Logistics

Auxilia

After the death of Alton Mydas in AB 1738, his son and successor to the Orizon throne, Veyden, conscripted the Altus Adventuring Guild for use as support to the Agean Watchers. As the watchers gather intelligence for various targets or assignments, Atlus guild members are tasked with acting on these assignments either directly from Veyden or from Agean Watchers assigned to specific guild parties.    The Orizon City Garde take on similar assignments, but only on the Orizonian skyland itself.

Recruitment

Although it is possible for Orizonian citizens to enlist in the Agean Watcher Corps, the vast majority of its members were enlisted via invitation from the Orizon Chairman.

History

The Agean Watcher Corps was founded by Stelani Mydas, former chairman of Orizon who ruled from AB 1665 until his death in AB 1703. This formation was founded in response to an assassination attempt on the Orizon royal family that left his eldest son, Amon, dead. He enlisted his most trusted generals of the Orizon City Garde to chose members who would be able to track down anyone who may pose a threat to the safety and interests of the kingdom of Orizon. At its conception, the only people who knew of their existence were the Mydas family, high ranked members of the OCG, and the Watchers themselves. The Agean Watcher Corps operated for decades without attention from the rest of the world; however, their secrets became harder to keep as their jurisdiction expanded. In the late 1690s, a rumor of a shadow organization originating from Orizon began to circulate around the world and following the death of Stelani, Alton Mydas used the enigmatic repuation of this organization to quell the local rebellion advocating for a change in leadership. Much of what has been shared about the Agean Watchers since their public awareness has been rumor and hear-say, though what is said about their talent and the danger they pose to their enemies is very real.

Historical loyalties

The Agean Watchers have sworn loyalty to the Chair of Orizon and have a duty to protect them, their family, and the interests of their nation. The vast majority of the Agean Watchers have unwavering fealty to Orizon's Chairman and are trained to follow their orders, regardless of moral standing. Throughout the years, some members have fallen away due to moral dilemmas caused by working in this corps; however, unapproved retirement is often punished by exile or death depending on circumstance.
