Newwind

This small city is nestled on the precarious slopes of a cliff, with its buildings straggling along a rough, winding road that follows the edge of a vast lake. Despite being a young city, it has become renowned for the high quality of skyships, wind skiffs, and other magitech developed by its people.

Demographics

This city consists largely of gnomes, halflings, hill dwarves, wood elves, air genasi, and humans.

Defences

Newwind is one of the few settlements after the collapse that has an automaton guard force for protection. Most everyday tasks are automated, which allows residents to concentrate on inventing, creating art, or pursuing other preferred activities such as gardening, brewing, or skiff racing.   Additionally, Newwind's position on high cliffsides reduces the occurrence of monster attacks, raider incursions, and harmful effects from the surrounding shadow-cursed forests.

History

This settlement was founded in 1661 AB following the discovery of mineral and ore deposits in the cliffsides of the nearby lake. With the assistance of the Intercontinental Merchants Guild, nearby villagers coalesced to the cliffside mining sites. As the city grew, local craftspeople and artificers experimented with many of the previously unknown mined materials. Many blueprints for Newwind creations are held in the city's vaults for safekeeping and are only to be accessed by the original inventor and approved parties.

Natural Resources

The mineral rich cliffsides adjacent to the city make for excellent farming terraces to feed Newwind's population. Excess goods (mainly crops, as rare minerals are kept within city limits) are traded internationally with support from both the local and intercontinental merchant guilds.   Despite being situated next to a vast lake, much of the city's waste and runoff ends up there. As a result, the area of the lake closest to the city is heavily polluted renedering it useless for growing crops or farming aquatic animals.
