    The Breaking Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

The Breaking Cataclysm marked the beginning of the current era. This mystic disaster destroyed large portions of the planet and sent wild magic coursing throughout the ecosystem. Motes of land, some the sizes of cities, were launched into the air, never to return to the ground and suspended in the atmosphere, Mass extinctions and the breakdown of many civilizations occurred. When the dust settled, humans replaced elves as the race of majority throughout most continents.

    The Mystblight
    Metaphysical / Paranormal event

Following the Breaking Cataclysm, the wild magic that coursed through the planet remained and influcened many aspects of both the natural and mystical phenomena of Alterra. Kingdoms weakened by the breaking were finished off by the many wild magic storms and wild magic influenced creatures during the Mystblight. Magical defences failed as ancient protection runes no longer functioned. Spellcasting itself was a dangerous act is even the simplest of spells and incantations led to dangerous wild magic surges. Although many of the strongest effects of the Mystblight faded with time, many still linger to the present day, especially the closer one travels to The Well.

    The Chromatic Slaughter
    Extinction

After the breaking, the dragon population quickly began to decline. Several decades after, the last of the metallic dragons had made their havens in Inferne and the southern coasts of Estrata. Metallic dragons and mortal Alterrans worked togther as the remaining chromatic dragons were hunted down both for protection of new settlements and for their magic resistant hides. By 50 AB, many believed the chromatic dragons were all but extinct.

    The First Draconic Awakening
    Revolution

Following their presumed extiontion over 150 years prior, an unprecedented number of dragon sightings and attacks shocked the world as a vast number of chromatic dragons seemed to have risen from nowhere. During this period, no civilization was safe, and the chromatic dragons nearly destroyed them all, the only ones who were promised to be spared, were those who swore fealty to the enigmatic Solidarity of Tiamat. This period ended in 242 AB following the murder of The Dragon Queen at the hands of a coalition of adventurers.
