An ancient, legendary weapon said to bring together the four elements and make the bearer unto a god.

Summary

There exists a legend of a mystical weapon crafted by the Aarakocra ancestors long before the memory of man. Legends said that the Aarakocra used the weapon, forged in eternal fires, drew together the five planes of existence. In one powerful strike, the weapon was broken into four pieces and lost to this plane.
But tales of their existence persisted. Allegedly, once unified, the pieces could call down the gods themselves, making the bearer the most powerful being on this plane. However, rumor has it that the four pieces have been forged into weapons of their own, commanding their own elemental evils and attempting to bring them to this plane to reign chaos and destruction and bring about the end of this age.

Historical Basis

The Aarakocra created a weapon long ago to connect the Elemental Plane of Air with this plane to save their race from extinction. Once the Aarakocra arrived, the weapon was broken into four pieces, severing control of the various planes, and scattered to Aarakocra colonies across the Forgotten Realms so that no one could harness that power again. Years passed, and the pieces were lost to time. That is, until the Cults of the Elementals came to call. Drawn by the legendary power, the cults overpowered the Aarakocra colonies one by one, stole the weapon pieces, and scattered to the corners of the Forgotten Realms to attempt to connect their respective Elemental Planes to this one. They hope to bring Elemental Evil to reign over the Forgotten Realms.

Godkiller was once a common myth passed from adventurer to adventurer around a fire or tavern table. Years passed, and the validity of the myth began to come into question. Godkiller passed from adventurer's quest to a children's story as the generations slowly stopped looking. The cults eradicated any trace of their takeover when they wiped the Aarakocra colonies out.

Variations & Mutation

Some believe Godkiller is a single weapon. Some, that there are seven pieces, as there are seven planes. Maybe it is a single sword. A set of nunchucks. A series of Morning Stars. Some think the Elves created it to conquer the Dwarves. Some say the Dwarves created it to conquer Man.

Cultural Reception

No one but the Aarakocra actually believe in the existence of Godkiller. Most simply tell stories of weapons strong enough to kill gods and unite kingdoms. The Dwarves do not deny that they created it, but cannot prove it exists, either.
