Espérian Empire
The Espérian Empire (Espérian: Imperio espéria ), also known as the Hispanic Monarchy (Espérian: Monarquía Hispánica) or the Cascuist Monarchy (Espérian: Monarquía Cascúista) is a colonial empire governed by Espéria. One of the largest empires in history, it was, in conjunction with the Daralians, the first to usher the Eronean Age of Discovery and achieve a global scale, controlling vast portions of the Aurelias, territories in Western Ereon, Eriammos, and various islands in Oceania and the Pacific. It was one of the world's most powerful empires of the early modern period, becoming known as "the empire on which the sun never sets", and reached its maximum extent in the 18th century.
They conquered large territories in North Aurelia, South Aurelia, Asia, Eriammos, and Oceania. Through royal marriages and diplomacy, the Espérian monarchs created several alliances with other Eronean powers. This allowed the Espérian Empire to gain control of many territories in Ereon. With all these territories and colonies across the world, the Espérian Empire became the greatest and richest empire in the world. For a time, the Espérian Empire was a great power in the oceans, with its experienced Navy. Espéria enjoyed a cultural golden age in the 16th and 17th centuries.
History
The Espérian Empire in the Aurelias was formed after conquering indigenous empires and claiming large stretches of land, beginning with Victorino Marcos Aureli in the Guerrerian Islands. The first permanent settlements in the New World were on the islands of Hispéria and Añcasāra. On Hispéria, the city of Santo Domingo was founded in 1466. In 1473, the Casa de Contratación was established to monitor trade for the Crown. Based out of Seville, they also had an intelligence division with a vast network of spies. By 1480, the Empire spread to the mainland continents of North and South Aurelia. In the 16th century, it conquered and incorporated the Mesoan empire, retaining indigenous elites loyal to the Espérian crown and converts to Anuism as intermediaries between their communities and royal government. After a short period of delegation of authority by the crown in the Aurelias, the crown asserted control over those territories and established the Council of the Bharats to oversee rule there. The crown then established viceroyalties in the two main areas of settlement, New Espéria and Peru, both regions of dense indigenous populations and mineral wealth. The last Mesoan city was finally conquered in 1687, giving the Espérians total control over most of central and southern Aurelia. The crown established the system of treasure fleets to protect the conveyance of silver to Seville. Merchants in Seville sold consumer goods that were registered and taxed by the Casa. These goods were sent to the colonies. Shipping went through specific ports. In Espéria, much of the shipping went through Seville. A line of treasure galleons travelled constantly throughout the year between Acapulco in Akecheta and Manila in the Philippines. Other vital ports include Luantina and Cartagena. The King of Espéria, Mateo II, died childless in 1700. He left the throne of Espéria to a Lormanian prince, Phillip of Anjou, instead of another Habsburg. This resulted in the War of the Espérian Succession, with Espéria and Lormance being challenged by Avalon, the Adronians and Asradan. The war ended with Phillip on the throne of Espéria, renouncing any claim he and his descendants had on Lormance. Espéria's overseas possessions remained intact, but much of its empire in Ereon was divided amongst its enemies."Further Beyond"
