Motes of Knowledge

Fen, you watch this silvery glow, a fragment of the tiniest piece of divination magic, float up and enter your chest, piercing directly where your heart is. And with that, you know, if you have a question, you need merely ask it... and the world will answer.

A mote of knowledge is a unique artefact that is given as a piece of divine providence where someone has committed an action that will RIPPLE across the world and alter the history of Alturis forever... or they can be gifted by a patron or god for a unique service offered by an individual. 
A creature can only ever hold one mote of knowledge at a time within themselves and, using that mote, they can ask the DM a question about the world, creatures or the campaign and they will receive a straight and honest answer from the DM. 
Once used, a mote of knowledge is lost forever and cannot be recharged, making it a remarkable gift indeed. 
Some individuals in Alturis have taken to the practise of storing motes of knowledge in jars and will either horde these jars for their own gain or will part with them for a VERY heavy price. Though, typically, typically these individuals are either cloistered scholars, the weavers of The Weaving Providence or greedy mages.
