House Frihep (V)

Owl Blazon

Structure

The house is effectively controlled by the iron fist of Viscount Gidas Frihep of Dinan, the families powerful patriarch. His children, Alana, Paol and Pierrick are his direct heirs, spending most of their time backstabbing each other.

Public Agenda

House Frihep ruthlessly pursues its twin goals of power and wealth, playing the games of Court both in Dreger and Breizh. Disdainful of the "backwater mudpit" of the Ar Mor Emrodez, they seek to raise their station, aligning themselves with the Gallian backed cause of Janed Pentevr to win favour and lands in the Gallian Crownlands or Anjev. Long neglectful of their actual holdings, they live in excess to impress their political rivals.

Assets

A wealthy Dinan merchant family with holdings throughout Breizh, House Frihep projects wealth and power, living in excess and showing off the finest textiles from the Cloth-Cities and Golden Sea, liberally using spices from Slaver's Coast and silverwork from Akitainia. In public and at Court, they are the picture of wealth. In private however, they are living in squalor, deeply in debt, a result of their general neglect and excess lifestyle. They barely maintain the castle of Roc'h Goueon, instead living in opulent manors in Dinan and Roazhon, and only rarely travel to Kab Frehel. They maintain a large company of Tards-Venus under the command of ruthless Camus Bour.

History

House Frihep comes from a long, but undistinguished line of Akitanian nobility, which came to Breizh during the rise of Duke Konan I "the Crooked" of the House of Roazhon, serving as his enforcers in the lead up to his eventual, but short, reign. They were granted lands around Dinan in 694 SI and, failing to respond to their lieges summons in his fateful war against Duke Fulk III of Anjev, survived past his reign. In Dinan, they established themselves with a small, but somewhat prosperous, textile business, as well as serving as financiers of the slave trade.

Territories

House Frihep hold the Barony of Ar Mor Emrodez at Kab Frehel, as well as lands surrounding Dinan and fiefs in Southern Akitania.

Military

House Frihep employs the Tards-Venus mercenary company of Camus Bour and a small retinue of vassal knights in Kab Frehel. When not in combat, they allow Bour's company to engage in freebooting throughout Breizh and Gallia in lieu of paying a retainer. Pierrick Frihep is a lieutenant under Bour's command.

Religion

Gidas and Paol Frihep are devout, zealous members of the Southern Faith, making their devotion known with large feasts for the Bishop of Sant-Maloù and large, public donations to local churches, dedicated several chapels in their name. This largess does not extend to private charity, and they will not donate a penny to a cause that doesn't benefit their image.   House Frihep views the Druids as infidels, the Fae as demons and the Milliget as unclean, corrupt sinners, and they continue to surreptitiously support the slavers where feybloods are involved. Paol is a member of the Inquisiton of Albi and is personally responsible for the burning and hanging deaths of over a dozen milliget and boermerzh, which he sees as his gods-given duty.
