Alyssis

It has been 744 years since the third age ended with a magical blight sweeping the earth and nearly succeeding in destroying all sentient life on the planet. As had happened before at the end of the first age, though that may differ based on which historian is asked to account, the civilized races of Alyssis banded together to survive the threat rather than defeat it. They succeeded, their populations reduced to mere tens of thousands as they huddled together in the then ancient city of Miasal, but they lasted out the danger. For three decades they waited and when the first of their martyr scouts returned from the untamed grasslands beyond the city walls alive they knew that at long last they were finally free. The fourth age of Alyssis had begun.   The preservation of civilization had been a hard-won thing and the new unified government of Alyssis is still praised centuries later for having secured it. That unity did not last long, unfortunately. By 203, the once diverse leadership of Miasal was near homogeneously comprised of elven and dwarven kind, competent and corrupt alike, their near immortality allowing that they never relinquish position without a great outside force. The time of cohabitation truly ended when, with an agreed divorce, the dwarves and elves divided the massive Miasal empire in two, solidifying their supremacy over their new respective regions, and creating new, permanent dynasties.   Many of the shorter-lived races had already left by then, spread out once again into an unknown world to discover what had been left behind or forgotten. Though the trip there was harsh, many took to ships and traveled to a Northern continent that would later become known as Kaeve. That is where your story takes place.   It has been over five hundred years since that first great migration. Histories have spawned, lived, and died in those years. We look to the modern era, the Imperial colonies located on the southern coast of the still mostly unexplored continent of Kaeve. Much has happened in recent decades, but for one reason or another, you have chosen to seek your fortune in the wildlands at the edge of civilization and Imperial authority. There are many dangers and mysteries in these lands that can lead to your death, but where the danger is high, so is the reward. Find your fortune or take someone else's, the choice is up to you, just remember to check the job boards, prepare for the beasts you might face out there, and keep a group of competent companions around to watch your back.
