Plot points/Scenes
Recap.
They are asleep. And they wake up in an unfamiliar place. It's bright and hot. Hot sand stings your exposed limbs and the wind tugs at your simple, rough clothing. You're standing on what appears to be a sandstone balcony, but it's not entirely made of sandstone. There's very faint veins of pale blue that twist into geometric patterns. The sun beats down, from directly above and looking out over the balcony you can see a vast expanse of grey sand. It looks sickly.
"Hello? Did you go deaf, Korth?" Says a tall and tanned elf boy, green eyes looking at Sil'Ferrous. He doesn't look a day over 13. He's got messy shoulder length white hair.
"Ugh, over there? See? That purple glint? That's the scale that fell off of Blaest when he and Ånd fought last time."
Closer look reveals the scale several hundred feet away from the balcony. It also reveals motes of dark and light that dance around in the air, undeterred by the wind. And also jagged arcs of rifts, rapidly opening and closing as they tear and seal in the area.
"Let's see who's _really_ the fastest runner. We'll go down to the safehaven's base and then race to the scale. First one to touch it gets this" he pulls out a small clay disk "a voucher for a week's worth of sweet crystals."
They get inspiration from childhood innocence.
Intercepted right at the bottom of a spiral staircase that leads outside. "Zaru! Where are you guys going?" A kid that looks identical to Zaru stands at the hallway that leads inside, except his hair is black. "You can't go out there! It's dangerous. There's a reason we're all cooped up in here. And help could arrive at any moment! You never know what could happen!"
"Exactly! They've all been praying for what? Over a day now? I doubt any of the dragons are paying any attention right now. Come join us." He holds up the voucher and waves it around. Zlea's eyes go wide and you swear he starts drooling. "It's just a quick race to the scale to free us from this boredom."
Zlea looks like he might accept, but then shakes his head. "No, no. If I also disappear, then mom will come looking for us herself, instead of sending me."
"That's too bad. Guess you didn't find us either, then." Zaru winks and Zlea.
Zlea smiles. "No, I suppose I should report back and keep looking. As long as you give me the other voucher I _know_ you have.
Zaru laughs. "Deal." Gives Zlea another little clay disk. Turns to everyone as Zlea heads back where he came from. "Let's race! Ready, set, go!"
Skill checks, of any variety. It's about 300ft through a minefield of energy motes, graping hands, and random rifts. Clouds steadily roll in al the while.
As the first person reaches the huge scale and they get a moment to laugh and tease each other, there's a pulse of magic that rips through the air. The sky is fully dark now. Then, it rains. "Vand." Zaru says with alarm. It's very quickly becomes an absolute downpour. The ground quickly turns to mud and then the water level rises, unable to soak in the ground.
They have 3 rounds to make it back. Will likely fail as it becomes difficult terrain quickly. And then as they begin the need to swim the earth suddenly rises, and shakes voilently. In the distance is a large silhouette of a dragon. Huge. Enormous. And with each slam of its massive claws the earth trembles, rising and falling unevenly. More alarmingly, parts of the safehaven mountain face begins to crumble. The very balcony they had all been on is gone, lost to the churning earth and water.
And then, a flash of light from the dark clouds. A bolt of energy strikes the center of the safehaven, turning it a pale blue. The rest crumbles with the furious roar from the dragon in the distance. It's answered by another bone-deep roar from the sky.
The water takes over just as they make it to the "shore", now the remnants of the out edges of the safehaven.
