After killing the bears, Maeralya catches sight of a human man's corpse up against the back of the cave, with terrible burns along his arms and a leg torn off beneath the knee. Slowly, the party comes to investigate and examine the corpse. Juniper and Maeralya inspect the corpse and discover the leg was torn off post death, likely by the bears, and the burns on the hands and arms are flash burns, likely inflicted by lightning. Strangely, the palms of the hands are most burned, implying the man attempted to block the lightning. This makes the party believe that it was a spell rather than a natural occurrence. Ruben investigates the man's belongings and finds a hefty coin purse, a book of diseases and mental conditions with pages missing, and a pencil drawing of a thin dragonborn man, whom they link back to the blue dragonborn at The Lakeside Inn. Heothun remembers about dragonborn being able to fire lightning from their mouths, as well as other elements, but is unable to remember which colour of dragonborn can do so.
