The party arrives hastily at the Tiller home and looks around, eventually discovering a hidden compartment under a rug. Maerayla gathers them to discuss a tactic on how to breach and enter in the event of enemies inside. They gather again into a formation as Maeralya leads the charge into the small, rocky basement, where she immediately sees four men with similar equipment hiding behind crates. A small fight ensues before Ruben jumps down and kills one of the men with a frost spell, later noticing it was the one from the Dipton Farm. The men attempt to relalitate with their bows against Ruben, who manages to block all of their shots with a shield spell. This leads the men to promptly surrender. The party then begin to attempt to negotiate with the men for information. They tell them that they are from Scortchton but manage to negotiate freedom for two of the tribal raiders, while the third, Britevny, will stay behind to share what information the party requires. The party agrees and hands over eight rations for the two men so they can travel safely home without weapons. They then begin to speak to Britevny. After the conversation, which is documented better in the "read full story", the party give Britevny food and let him leave.

After the other leaves, Britevny speaks to the party and begins to talk about why the raiders have come so far north, basically stating that it is much harder for the Scorchers to gather food recently and insinuates that it is due to stepped up defences in Oakenfield. They speak some more and negotiate his release back down to Scorchton, as technically, the only men who murdered during the raids are both dead. Eventually, after a lot of back and forth, Britevny spills the following information:

  • The leader of the Scorchers, Krom Tyllak, had sent the raiders to the Tiller home to destroy a map of Scorchton, though he does not really state why, besides saying that they "don't want people to know more about them"
  •
  • The "Dragon" that attacked Dawnbank recently is the reason for everyone remembering past lives, and the Dragon itself is "two people" who "do not know who they are".
  •
  • The Scorchers no longer suffer with The Pining due to their exposure to the Dragon, who lives nearby in The Rolling Wastes. He also describes the Pining as feeling for an old life, where this new thing from the Dragon is knowing about your old life.
  •
  • The Scorchers embrace their old lives, believing they are not broken, though the Church of Dawn has sent multiple expeditions to the desert town to try and "fix" them.
