WELCOME TO AMARANTHIS

Preface

Amaranthis is a setting that resembles a fresco of Ancient Greece. There are dark themes that may not appeal to most players such as slavery and sexism. Personally, I tent to stay away from describing such things in too much detail but I feel you cannot bisect a period in human history and sweep the harsh reality under the rug. I do not condone such things but I feel that these themes make the setting what it is; a brutal and chaotic place.

Through the looking-glass

A unit of Steosian cavalry crash into a horde of barbarians, their lances breaking upon impact, in the end all that remains is a field of gore and the sounds of agony. Two unending phalanxes meet at spears length, the ocean of spears clash against shield, armor, and flesh. A volley of a thousand arrows is let loose by a battalion of Anglanian marksmen, the arrows pincushion a mass of armored infantry with great precision. A cunning politician rallies the people against their own kin. The wounds of a bloody civil war still fester of corruption and greed. The pride and arrogance will lead to downfall, the rise of a new empire.

Amaranthis is a vast theatre ready to be explored by revolutionaries; the seas beckon brave men and women to lead a life of adventure. Life on land is as difficult as on the Amaranthine ocean, as disease claims almost as many as pirates and brigands, and further, unfavorable weather can swallow the ship or devastate crops. Exploitation and slavery are more than a common occurrence. The word of a woman is untrusted in most societies except those such as the Anglanian; there the words of a matriarch are more respected.

Scale

In comparison to our planet, Amaranthis is but a small chain of islands, as even its biggest continent is roughly the size of modern-day Egypt. As such, it should be noted that there is a whole world beyond the playable area such as: Nihkuma and Xin’Nikhon to the far east, Linaria to the north, and Valroyal to the west. However, in this time and age the focus lies on this isolated region of the world.

Darkshines

The gods remain ever silent as the forces of corruption seep in from an unfathomable plane of horrors. The gods were punished for their betrayal against Thanatos, the only being that they truly feared. Those gods were put to death and forgotten to time, and with them so did magic disappear as a widespread phenomenon. But now the weave of magic is growing ever stronger, perhaps it is a telltale sign of the end-times. Forgotten tales of great desolation flood back into memory to destroy humanity from within, only few can stand against the rising tide. Will your heroes be enough?
