Hobgoblin Lore

One of the 10 dominant races in the Fesden area.

Hobgoblins seem to be a mesh-up of traits of some of the other races; they have the muscle density of a Dwarf, the temper of an Orc, and the appearance of the other two goblinoid races. They have a long and proud history of warfare, and claim to this day that they were the ones who united the goblinoid races into a single nation in their homeland. They are valued for their innate tactical knowledge and are often hired as strategic consultants during times of war; of course, this simplification doesn't apply to all Hobgoblins, but that won't keep even the ones it doesn't apply to to profit off of it. They are the most trusted of the goblinoid races, as they have a reputation for keeping their word, even if you need to be careful of the wording of the oath that is sworn to you… The Hobgoblins, like the other goblinoid races, come from a land far away.

The Hobgoblins from the very beginning were a people who seemed doomed to perpetual war. In the early ages of Ameow, the Hobgoblins were constantly at war one with another, tribe against tribe, village against village, town against town, city against city, and even kingdom against kingdom. During this time, though many died, the constant conflict allowed the Hobgoblins to progress at neckbreaking speed in terms of arms and armor technology, and siege technology, and when the twelve Hobgoblin Lords signed a peace document, they were in prime position to rule over the entirety of Heneron. It was after this realization that the Twelve Hobgoblin Lords appointed a single man to lead their nation on to greatness: General Porumth Urugall, with the promise that if he managed to unite all goblinoids upon Heneron under one banner, the name of the nation would be his own. So General Urugall ventured forth to the capitol city of the Hobgoblins with the largest army ever amassed, and gave them all an ultimatum: Fealty, or death. What General Urugall hadn't accounted for, however, is how usefull having the Bugbears as even allies might be, as their Chief appealed to General Urugall in the form of a counter-proposal, service for coin. The decision was a hard one made, but it was made, and so the Hobgoblins employed the Bugbears for their mastery in thievery to steal some of the weapons that were being transported to the Goblin's capitol city, and it was after making this transaction that the Bugbears, and General Urugall in particular began to plan out the next attack. It would need to be big, and it would need to be devastating if they were to conquer the goblinoid races in a timely manner. Eventually they settled on making their approach in the dead of night with siege towers, trebuchets, and ladders, camping their army all around the walls of the city. They also decided that they would not offer the Goblins an ultimatum, as they knew the stubborn Goblins would never accept it, so instead, they would attack at the crack of dawn, sending their men up to the wall with ladders and siege towers, while they bombarded the city with their trebuchets to allow for enough distraction to get their men up onto the walls. It was in the execution of this plan that an unforseen side-effect would be found; the Hobgoblin's love for war. They made it up onto the walls, but their love for war caused them to prolong the fight, allowing the Goblins to gather more and more of a force, until the Goblin Juggernaughts had assembled, and at that point, the fight was lost. The hobgoblin forces that had made it inside the walls were quickly slain, and their siege weapons were destroyed and burned, and the Hobgoblin army was forced to retreat.

General Urugall was humiliated, but that humiliation only caused him to grow in his anger and desire for victory, so he made plan after plan, and after a war that lasted three years, the Hobgoblins had finally conquered the Goblins, and with the Goblins defeated, the Hobgoblins willingly surrendered and allowed themselves to be governed by the Twelve Hobgoblin Lords, and thus was born the nation of Urugall, and General Urugall finally went into retirement, enjoying the rest of his life in peace. The Twelve Hobgoblin Lords then quickly realized that they may well have a rebellion on their hands if they alone governed, so they added eight seats to their council, allowing four seats for each of the other races within Urugall, renaming the council to the Council of Urugall, which alone held power over the entire nation, and held the power to make war or peace with the other nations of the world, but for the time being, they were content with simply ruling a nation as large as Urugall.
