Summary

Eons ago The Riverlands had fallen under the control of a wicked dragon named, Odesyil, who rule over the land. He ruled using fear and control. Odesyil crushing those who opposed him. For nearly three hundred years the people were subjected to living under the shadow of his wings.   It was in this world that a tragic hero named Pyrians rose up. A rebellious child from birth he refused to bend his knee to any ruler, especially those that were not equal to him in strength. It is often said that the father of Pyrians was not the man who begat him but instead the dragon who razed villages on a whim. The same reckless, cruel streaks ran through both of their blood, as if imbued with the same ichor. Pyrians hated the idea of being subject to another creature and waited patiently, scheming in an attempt to destroy the creature and establish himself as king of the river.   In his wonderings he often raided groups of merchants who traveled into the Riverlands. It was during one such raid that he acquired a piece of a meteor that had fallen from the ancient moon of Orton, a single piece of Orton's Belt. He enlisted the help of a local blacksmith, Ombro Stonebender, to craft a weapon he believed would kill the dragon with a single blow.   The two laboured on the weapon and when The Dragon Slayer was complete there was no more beautiful a weapon shaped. The shaft was polished and gently detailed by the carvings of Pyrians. The head of the spear, a sharpened piece of moon jade, glowed softly as if lit from within.   Tragedy would be the tale of the spear. Pyrians woke one night certain that Ombro would make off with the spear and when he crept to the house where the dwarf lived, he found him cradling the spear gazing at the craftsmanship. Without a word, Pyrians slew Ombro. The sword he drove through the dwarf's back was had been a gift from Ombro to Pyrians. He spoke no word of warning.   Pyrians acted quickly and collected his men. They climbed the rock face to where Odesyil's layer was. Deeper into the volcanic mountain the climbed, Pyrians confident that victory was at hand. Yet a shadow cast behind him.   "Your weapon calls to me. I heard its magical heart beat them moment you crossed into my lair." a booming voice from behind them called. Darkness settled in on them as a creature filled the entire space. Odesyil.   "I am not afraid!" Pyrians rushed the dragon his spear ready, but the tail of the dragon lashed through the tight corridor pinning Pyrians against the wall. With a quick snap of his jaws Pyrians was in the creatures mouth and with his spear he moved to drive it into the creature but was unable to find purchase. The dragon swallowed Pyrians whole taking the spear with him. Inside Pyrians stabbed all while the flames at his flesh.   The mountain erupted in a gout of flame and lava, which poured down into the rivers cooling as they went. The destruction of that moment left a crater where once a mountain had existed. The land forever scarred.   No trace was ever found of Odesyil, Pyrians, or the Dragon Slayer. Still legend holds that the spear exists and that dragons all over the kingdom are in search of this weapon.
