Thardin Ironback

Thardin Ironback is one of the mine foremen in the town of Burcote. The only surviving member of the old ruling family of the town, he escaped the wrath of Agmaeld by sheer stroke of luck; the week of the coup, he was trapped deep in his mineshaft by an accidental cave-in. By the time he escaped, emaciated and dehydrated, the giants were fully in control. Thardin was able to escape notice, and slowly worked his way up to the position of mine foreman, and now runs one of the town's three mines. Of them, Ironback mine is the least productive, but suffers the least accidents, owing to his caring and generous nature with his workers.
An old friend of Olya Daugaard, Thardin helped her learn Common after she arrived in The Silver Peaks and Burcote itself. He is the man that Olya wants to place in charge of the town, while she plots to overthrow or destroy the giants. However, due to his mine's low performance, the giants keep close watch upon Thardin, forcing him to have little interaction with Olya and her resistance.
