Suh'laan (Soo - Lahn)

Suh'laan, also known as the The Demonlands, a giant peninsula of the same super-continent that sits between West and East Riyū, connecting the two lands in the shape of a U. The land was located south beyond the region of the Utter East, Suh'laan was mostly isolated from the rest of the world, as the peninsula was separated from the main mass by the treacherous World Pillar Mountains, for East Riyu, while they are buffered from all Western Riyū influence since the Yokai invaded the Elven Kingdoms of the Fairwoods, in the Battle of the Ants.   The Demonlands are home to a diversity of non-human inhabitants, but the majority are comprised of humans. Suh'laani are people of brown skin, dark hair, and relatively small height. All speak the common language of Midani and share in the common culture of Rashio's Rationale; racial values are much less prominent than elsewhere. Only a few Suh'laani ever venture outside their homeland, usually as traders, and could typically be found only in the very south of Riyū. The seas around Suh'laan are plagued with pirates and corsairs who charge traders tolls to cross their seas, such traders willingly pay these exorbitant fees as Suh'laan's exotic trading goods tend to be well worth the price back in Riyū. Occasionally the pirates decide to completely cut off Suh'laan from Riyū. The land was full of secretive cities, unwelcoming to travelers, huge deserts, lush oases, and powerful genies who frequently meddled in the affairs of humans. The continent was governed by a theocracy headed by the Grand Caliph, a prestigious ruler of the state, who ruled from the capital city of Huzuz, the City of Delights. The symbol of Suh'laan was the moon and trailing stars. Now, tales tell of demon-infested cities and godless sorcerers, like the genie-binding Sha'irs wielding strange magic. Suh'laan was a land of many types of exotic magic and powerful warriors. Suh'laani were firmly convinced they were more civilized than the rest of the world and treated these "barbarians" accordingly - through indentured servitude -- or death. Traditions and values are being pushed further than ever before, many of the old ways challenged and some outright abandoned, though still withholding - which is far better than most in the absence of the Six.
